Ramblers Somerset is a beautiful and challenging county for ramblers. Waterrow is located near to the boundary of Exmoor National Park, and is also close to the Brendon and Quantock Hills. An excellent guide book is "Circular Exmoor Walks" (ISBN NO.      1 899183507)
Cyclists The steep hills that ramblers love are also an attraction to cyclists, many of whom travel from overseas to enjoy the stunning scenery
Gardens For those who want to have a more relaxed time there are many leisure facilities available. The county has more than its fair share of beautiful gardens to visit, some of the nearest being Hestercombe (picture top left) near Taunton, and Cothay Manor  at Wellington. Details of these and other gardens in the area can be found on the TIC website www.visitourgardens.co.uk
Steam Railway & Taunton Canal For people who would like a taste of transport from years gone by, The West Somerset Railway's steam trains provide an excellent day out, you can travel from Bishops Lydeard near Taunton to the coastal resort of Minehead,  passing by some stunning scenery across the Quantock hills.

The Bridgwater to Taunton Canal is worth a visit. Canal boats can be hired on a daily or weekly basis, and organised boat trips are also available. It is possible to hire bicycles to cycle along the canal paths.

Shopping For people who prefer to spend their leisure time participating in a spot of "retail therapy"  Taunton, and Exeter have excellent shopping  facilities. A visit to Clarks Village (near Street and Glastonbury) provides a chance to buy directly from various manufacturers factory outlet shops
